Dr Courtney Howard is an Emergency Physician in Yellowknives Dene Territory in the Canadian subarctic and a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary. The Chair of the Global Climate and Health Alliance and first woman president of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, she is on the Editorial Advisory Boards of the Lancet Planetary Health and the Journal of Climate Change and Health. During her Master of Public Policy studies at Oxford University she focused on using a planetary health lens to explore transitions to an economy centred around wellbeing. She has two young daughters and loves to dance..

William Gagnon is an expert in healthcare systems decarbonization and sustainable medicine. As the Director of Implementation at the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, he supports health care leaders in decarbonizing their practices. Formerly with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and the Centre for Sustainable Medicine (Singapore), William spearheaded initiatives to decarbonize facilities, electrical systems, and vehicles in Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda and Singapore where he learned firsthand the challenges of balancing sustainability with safety, security and critical healthcare needs, both in underdeveloped and hyper developed countries.
A French Canadian, William holds a Bachelor’s in Building Engineering from Concordia University, a Master’s in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University, two LEED professional accreditations. William is a Project Management Professional and he has studied climate and leadership at Harvard and Cornell. William is also the part-time Executive Director of the Northwest Territories Medical Association.
In August 2023, William was among 25,000 Yellowknife residents evacuated due to catastrophic wildfires. Named a Top 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leader by Corporate Knights, he often speaks about climate on global stages. You’ll often find him skiing or sailing on Great Slave Lake.

Shellyza Sajwani is a pharmacist who works within areas of climate change, global health and oncology as they relate to the pharmacy profession. Shellyza received her MPharm from Aston University in the UK, her PharmD from the University of Toronto, her Global Health Intensive Delivery Program from Harvard University and her Climate Change and Health certification from Yale University. 

She is the national co-chair and co-founder of the Canadian Association of Pharmacy for the Environment (CAPhE) and is also the co-chair of the Ottawa Hospital Pharmacy Environmental Committee.  Shellyza also co-chaired the  International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) policy committee  which created and passed the first ever international pharmacy climate change policy in 2023, which was sent to the organization’s over 100 country membership representing four million pharmacy professionals. Shellyza is also currently the co-founder of Climaceutics Health Solutions which focuses on building a tool and certification process for pharmacies to reduce their emissions and improve their resilience to climate events and other disasters.

Finally, Shellyza has worked for ten years as an oncology specialized pharmacist at the Ottawa Hospital, and as an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa. She has previous experience  as a co-president of Pharmacists without Borders Canada between 2018-2021, and as the co-chair of Pharmacists Without Borders International between 2021 and 2024. Shellyza has received various honours including awards for contribution to pharmacy practice from the University of Toronto, Aston University, and the International Pharmaceutical Federation.

Krista holds a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and a Postdoctorate in Health Services Research. She currently serves as the Provincial Choosing Wisely Coordinator for Newfoundland and Labrador and the Implementation Lead with the Quality of Care NL Program at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She also holds Adjunct positions with the Faculty of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences at Memorial University and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Her work focuses on reducing low value healthcare and fostering improvements in environmental sustainability of healthcare systems. She has been leading a provincial Environmental Task Force in Newfoundland since 2023.

Dr. Anika Maraj is a psychiatrist based in Whitehorse, Yukon, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta. Before relocating to Whitehorse, she worked at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, where she provided care to a diverse inner-city population, mentored medical learners, and explored quality improvement initiatives. Dr. Maraj completed her psychiatry residency and Master of Science at McGill University, where her research focused on improving engagement with marginalized populations in early psychosis care. Throughout her medical career, she has been deeply committed to addressing healthcare inequities. Her current work explores the intersection of environmental health and human well-being, as she aims to advocate for more equitable and sustainable healthcare solutions.

Dr. Kathleen Ross is a family physician in Coquitlam and New Westminster, BC, and is a recognized expert in physician leadership and quality improvement. She has held numerous leadership roles throughout her career, including president of Doctors of BC, and is committed to fostering inclusive, diverse and anti-racist practices in health care. With an interest in advancing technology in front-line clinical care, she served as physician lead and chair of the Pathways Patient Referral Association, an indispensable online clinical and referral tool for physicians in BC and the Yukon. She is an avid volunteer in her community and internationally and has received several awards for her

community and global humanitarian work.

Après un B. Sc. en Biologie de l’Université d’Ottawa, il a complété son M.D., son Ph. D. en Sciences neurologiques et sa spécialité à l’Université de Montréal.

Raluca is the Planetary Health Leadfor Providence Health Care in Vancouver (BC), a first of its kind role for the organization. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the UBC School of Nursing. Throughout her career, Raluca has worked in public and private health care contexts, in addition to teaching at the University of British Columbia, where she played a key role in the School of Nursing as a content expert on Climate Change & Health.  Raluca has also worked as a Climate and Health Educator at Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières, where she led global capacity-building initiatives on the health co-benefits of mitigation. She is actively engaged at the provincial and national levels as a member of the Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment (CANE), alongside other local and global groups leading work on planetary health. Raluca believes that health care systems are perfectly positioned to engage in climate adaptation and mitigation action at all levels, to safeguard the present and future.

Celia Walker is a trained family physician currently completing an enhanced skills year in Emergency Medicine at the University of Alberta. She holds a BSc in Biology and Bioethics from Dalhousie University and an MSc in Global Health from McMaster University. After earning her medical degree in Calgary, she ventured north to Yellowknife, NT, to complete her residency in rural family medicine.

Driven by curiosity and a spirit of adventure, Celia has worked, studied, and explored across the globe—from conducting research in Sub-Saharan Africa to providing clinical care above the Arctic Circle. Raised in the mountains, her deep connection to nature and her experience in the field of global health have fuelled a passion for Planetary Health, with a focus on its impact on rural and remote northern communities.

Celia has been an active member of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment since 2018. She has also produced a short film highlighting the health impacts of climate change in Canada, co-chaired the Canadian Federation of Medical Students’ Health and Environment Adaptive Response Taskforce, and founded Climate Wise Slides, an online medical education planetary health resource.

Her current interests include climate preparedness in the emergency department, the impact of a changing climate on Canada’s northern communities, and advancing planetary health education in medicine..
